The programme was inaugurated by Shri H.P Maheswarappa, Project Coordinator, AICRP(Palms ), ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod. Shri Maheswarappa lauded the efforts taken by the ashram in disseminating organic farming technologies by promoting safe food for healthy life.
Sri Yogananda Saraswathi Swamiji of Kondevoor Mutt stressed the importance of conserving the natural resources, ecology and environment for the well being of mankind.
K V K , ICAR-CPCRI Kasaragod has given importance to the organic cultivation through field level extension activities and frontline demonstrations in Kasaragod district and demonstrated organic cultivation of paddy in Kondevur , Uppala in Mangalpady panchayat . This involves soil test based acidity and nutrient management, selection of varieties suitable for organic cultivation, mechanization to reduce the cost of cultivation, organic plant protection measures etc. to create awareness among the farming community. K V K has introduced three varieties suitable for organic cultivation Viz; Ezhom I, II and III .
Dr. Vanaja T, Asst. Prof., Kerala Agricultural University stressed the importance of conservation of traditional varieties for promoting nutritional security.
Dr Manojkumar Head K V K , CPCRI Kasaragod briefed about the frontline demostration to the farmers. Dr S Leena Chief Technical Officer K V K offered felicitation to the programme.
The programme received overwhelming response from farming community and was attended by more than 200 farmers.
